Disaster preparedness in schools pays attention to the very basics. Innovations after building up beginning skills can inspire more communications and thoughts. This year, adjustments were made to the counseling and training mechanism for special education schools. By inviting firefighters with practical disaster prevention and rescue experience, on-site practical rescue experience was provided to strengthen various disaster prevention and response measures in schools. Other than that we had the officials from Special Education Schools visit schools for students with different disabilities to help each other progress by learning from each other's experiences. Therefore, we invited school principals and teachers to share their thoughts and achievements in this issue, which will help to improve school campus disaster management and other work.
Parents are always concerned about their children's safety. Other than kids of Special Education, preschool children are also vulnerable when disaster comes. Apart from consciousness of their own, they rely on their parents' protection and companionship. So the concept of family disaster prevention is even more important. In this issue we share about parent-child co-learning experience such as doing family games and readings, and how to promote parent’s consciousness and participation at disaster prevention.
Last but not least, at Dong Jyu Elementary School, Jinguang Township, Lienchieng County in the “Island Survival” Disaster Risk Reduction Summer Camp, after the training of sea survival and fire evacuation lesson, these young students are challenged with wilderness survival courses, which included challenges such as drilling for firewood and weaving hemp ropes.
